We are on our polishing stages of the film (my god it’s been 3 years), and we would like your feedback on how to improve the film, and ourselves as animators and illustrators. Although the film is 3 years backdated when it comes to reflecting our current skill levels, we are still very proud of our baby. After all, it was the first project that started Stick and Balloon!

In there, she found two really familiar creatures… and the most lovely bunch of like-minded, puppet-maneuvering, paint-stained, caffeine-driven, cicada-loving creatives all stored in the garage. What a perfect little garage indeed!

In the meantime, Balloon was slaving away on the island.

We recently completed our 48 hour challenge at FMX+ITFS in Stuttgart this May. There were total of 5 team, from Singapore (us), Egypt, UK, Georgia and Poland. All teams had to create a 30 second to 2 minute animation using ITFS mascot Trixi horse.

Stick and Balloon decided on using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After effects, Adobe Premiere and crayons to create our little piece. We were fed messages and love from many people.

Even though we didn’t win, we’re very proud of our work and would love to share it with everyone.

Over January and February, Stick and Balloon collaborated with Build and Connect, Jachin  Pousson, Shyalala and Nexus Singapore to create an awesome little flash game called JimmyFish.

Story goes as Jimmy is stuck unhappily in a fish costume his mum picked for him. While she thought it was funny since Jimmy’s world has been raining fish for a while, Jimmy doesn’t agree and is desperate to change out of it. As a player, you have to help Jimmy find new ways to save energy in his home, which will earn him eco-dollars to exchange for a better costume. More money means cooler outfits! And that would also improve the weather outdoors.

The Little Dreamer is a charming fairy tale reminiscent of The Little Prince meets The Arabian Nights, written by Anila Angin, and illustrated and animated by Stick & Balloon‘s Sara Chong and Yanyun Chen.

Anila believes herself to be some specimen of alien on a visit to Earth. She also likes to imagine that she might be a slightly more grownup version of Zayoni, the child whose life is recorded in The Little Dreamer. Her goal is to help people remember who they really are, and thus find themselves again, somewhere in the milky cosmos of the heart …

“A child, Zayoni, leaves her tribe, her mother and her beloved tree to go in search of the lost City of Dreams, hoping to restore a paradisiacal way of life to her island. Along the way, she meets a host of strange and colourful characters, including a fortune-teller, a talking dog, a wicked princess, and the Old Dreamers of the Earth, Air, Sea and Fire – beings so ancient, they grow younger with age. The child has only three months to find the City of Dreams. She races against time and the challenges she encounters, only to realise that what she was looking for was within her all this while, and in the hearts of everyone else …”

A simple cure for pinkeye causes a multitude of other problems that require yet more drugs. A parody of medicine, as seen from a child’s eyes.

This animation is the third in a series based on the fairy tale novel by Anila Angin, illustrated and animated by Stick & Balloon.

A child, Zayoni, leaves her tribe, her mother and her beloved tree to go in search of the lost City of Dreams, hoping to restore a paradisiacal way of life to her island. Along the way, she meets a host of strange and colourful characters, including a fortune-teller, a talking dog, a wicked princess, and the Old Dreamers of the Earth, Air, Sea and Fire — beings so ancient, they grow younger with age. The story unfolds through the fables the characters narrate to each other, in the tradition of the tribal storyteller, and in the process, the child learns the different meanings of love, life, freedom, disguise, and most importantly, the power of living from the heart.
